Changing the battery
Key with remote in the head
- This type has the buttons built into the key head. The cell is inside that head, between two clipped halves.
- Work a thin flat tool into the seam near the blade and twist; go round slowly if it does not open at once.
- The coin cell is usually under or on the back of a small board. Keep the rubber button pad in place while you swap the cell.
- Press the head together until it clicks and test the buttons. The transponder chip that lets the car start is separate from the battery, so starting should not change.
Buy the exact size printed on the old cell (CR1220). The first two digits are the width in millimetres and the last two are the thickness in tenths of a millimetre.
If a child might have swallowed a coin cell, treat it as an emergency and get to a hospital right away.
