Changing the battery
Separate remote fob
- The remote is a small standalone unit. You will not need to touch the ignition key at all.
- Find the slot along the edge and turn a coin in it. Go slowly so the clips do not snap.
- Swap the cell or cells, keeping the same side up as the old ones.
- Close the fob and test it. If it does not work, open it again and check the cell is seated flat.
A CR2032 is 20 mm across and 3.2 mm thick. CR2032, CR2025 and CR2016 share the same width but not the same thickness, so a swap between them can leave a loose contact or a case that will not close.
Flip key
- Open the flip blade. Never force the hinge sideways, since the spring and pin are the weak part of a flip key.
- Find the seam or small slot on the body (often at the end away from the blade) and twist a coin or small flat screwdriver in it until the cover lifts.
- Swap the coin cell, keeping the same face up as the one you removed, and do not bend the metal contact tab.
- Clip the body closed, fold the blade, and test the buttons from a few steps away.

Smart key (push-button start)
- Most push-button fobs hide a metal backup key. Press or slide its catch and draw the key out first.
- Use the slot where the metal key sat. Twist, do not lever hard, and work along the seam until the halves separate.
- Pop the old battery out with a toothpick or plastic pick, not a metal blade, and seat the new one with the + side matching the old one.
- Reassemble, refit the emergency key, and check that the car sees the fob when you press start.

A CR2430 is 24.5 mm wide and 3.0 mm thick. It is not the same as a CR2450, which is thicker.
Coin cells are a choking and burn hazard for children. Store the spares in their original pack, out of reach.
