GMC Sierra EV key fob battery

Every model year listed for the GMC Sierra EV has a proven battery. The most common answer is CR2450. Rows below run oldest to newest; a year can appear twice when the car came with more than one kind of key.

Changing the battery

Smart key (push-button start)

  1. Start by freeing the hidden metal key: there is a latch or slide on the case, and the blade comes out once it moves.
  2. The gap left by the metal key usually has a pry point. A slow twist with a thin flat tool (tape on the tip saves the plastic) opens the two halves.
  3. Pop the old battery out with a toothpick or plastic pick, not a metal blade, and seat the new one with the + side matching the old one.
  4. Reassemble, refit the emergency key, and check that the car sees the fob when you press start.

On many recent GM smart remotes a button on the side releases the key; the slot at the bottom is where the case opens.

A CR2450 is 24.5 mm across and 5.0 mm thick, much fatter than a CR2032. A thinner cell will rattle and lose contact, so buy the exact size.

Keep spare coin cells away from small children. A swallowed coin cell can burn the throat within hours; if it happens, go to an emergency room at once.
